Cataraqui Cemetery National Historic Site of Canada

Cataraqui Cemetery National Historic Site of Canada is an active cemetery that predates confederation. As one of the first of its kind in Canada, Cataraqui Cemetery is recognized as a National Historic Site, designated because of a naturalistic landscape that incorporates picturesque perspectives and romantic elements. The Cemetery’s collection of funeral monuments and statues, are of artistic and historical interest.

Designation also pays homage to the many prominent Canadians, including Canada’s first Prime Minister, Sir John A. MacDonald, and the 46,000+ individuals and families interred within the Cemetery’s historic gates.

Visitors are welcome to visit the grounds and explore a part of Canada’s rich history, through the winding paths and stunning water features.
